A Fraud, That’s What I Am

{A Personal Narrative}

Gold Key, 2025 Scholastic Writing Awards

I cannot live without my poutine and my ice hockey as much as I cannot live without Chinese New Year and boiling tea on a hot summer day or the buffalo chicken mac and cheese panini from Wawa. I would not be complete.

But what no one understands is that I am as puzzling to myself as I am to everyone else. I cannot explain myself to you because I do not know how to explain myself to me. I am at once from both everywhere and nowhere at all.

The Circle of Life

{A Story of Justice, Resilience, and the Power of Collective Action}

Silver Key, 2025 Scholastic Writing Awards

Winner, 2024 Revell Writing Contest – Wolff Prize for Fiction, The Hill School.

The villagers stared, aghast. Freya realised her mistake, but it was already too late. She had exposed herself as a fraud in front of half the town. She was never better than any of them, she did not have any sort of magical powers that granted her the ability to rule. There was no higher power that would punish them if they did not complete The Choosing.

From that moment on the townspeople no longer feared Freya, for they finally saw her for what she truly was: a liar. Her centuries-long dictatorship had finally come to an end.

Life at 16 Studying Abroad in Italy

This was written in Italy for my home school to introduce the school year abroad Italy experience.

Published at "Hill Classical Review"

What’s funny is that earlier in the day in Latin we had been translating De Bello Gallico , Julius Caesar’s recount of the Gallic Wars, and discussing a moment in which he found booty. How lucky am I to be so close to the stories I have known for countless years? To touch and to help preserve the history I learn about in class? It’s the little moments like these  that make me truly appreciate the absurdity of the incredible circumstances I find myself in.

Canadian Housing Crisis

 Hill News Article

According to recent estimates, the average Canadian makes less than 30% of what they would need to afford a home. Although Canada is the second largest country in the world by land mass, nearly three quarters of its 40 million residents live in or around major cities such as Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal - leaving certain neighbourhoods extremely crowded.   To exacerbate this, zoning laws dictate that only certain areas are able to have high-rise buildings, meaning that for a very large percentage of land, single family homes are the sole constructions allowed there.

Marvel

 Hill News Article

Following the release of Iron Man in 2008, Marvel Studios absolutely dominated the film industry for over a decade – delivering hit after hit audiences of all ages adored. However, ever since Avengers: Endgame arrived in theatres in 2019, the quality of Marvel’s projects seems to have been on a steady decline.  It would seem that their countless larger than life projects have lost their ability to resonate with their audiences. This only goes to show that creativity cannot be replaced by computer generated imagery, quantity, or anything else.

Why do civilisations collapse? Is our civilisation in danger?

This article discuss the connection between climate change and the downfall of a society.

Many of the world’s greatest civilisations such as the Roman Empire, Persian Empire, Ancient Egypt, as well as Ancient China flourished in areas that are within a certain temperature range. Beyond this range, it grows exponentially harder for civilizations to thrive in the same way. Why? According to the University of Arizona, anywhere between 20º C and 25º C is the ideal temperature for a resting human body such that one is not expending large amounts of energy in order to make up either for a loss of or an excess of heat.

 Radio, Not Laptop - Workable Quality Education for Remote Area

 Speech on session of the 2025 United Nations High-Level Political Forum on SDG

Laptops were delivered to children who had never used them before in communities with no

internet access ...... The results? A project that brought hardware without the means to maintain it in the long term.

I found inspiration in ancient Rome education......

It may not sound high-tech, but the radio is a simple, cost-effective alternative that can deliver

education where laptops cannot.
